The Things You Look at Change
Perspective is the root of reality. What I think about becomes what I believe. It is my responsibility to pay attention to the perceptions my mind develops and weed out what is not worth keeping. If something does not feel right to me, I can change my perception and work toward what does align.
This became a life lesson to me after my first brain surgery when my desired cure turned into daily seizures. I was mad and about to believe that I was cursed and unloved when I got curious about what would happen if I looked at it differently. If what felt like a curse is a loving trust for me to learn from, what would happen if I looked upon and treated my seizures as a life companion to learn with instead of an enemy? Eventually, I didn't feel alone or condemned getting used to the seizures. I felt like it was a friend walking with me and cheering me on. For every time that something got screwed up because of a seizure I asked aloud, “So, what were we supposed to learn this time? What are you trying to teach me?”
A small change in perspective makes a big difference in the overall reality and choosing what aligns with myself adds to who I am. I know to question why when I encounter uncomfortable perceptions and work hard for understanding that aligns with who I am. Every perspective is another brick added to what I am building into.
