When It Cannot be Helped: Spoken Word

When it cannot be helped, I have the opportunity to choose my way. The choice to get angry, believe that I am less than and that struggle is against me or the choice to move past reactions, wonder about what I’m being called toward and use the struggle to better understand and improve.

When it cannot be helped, could there be something greater working out that requires my trust and patience in order for me to understand? Will adding to the fire that I am disliking only make it worse? What if I stepped back and chose to walk alongside it without judging the moment? Could it be teaching me something unexpected?

When it cannot be helped, I must admit that it is beyond my control and take responsibility for what I can control. My thoughts, feelings and actions. I can choose to observe what surrounds me and apply what I know to the situation or simply allow it to take its course before deciding what to do. Whichever choice I make will help shape the outcome of what I will come to understand.

Life offers many things that cannot be controlled. The weather, what other people think, feel and do, circumstances that arise or disease that befalls upon us. To all that occurs, we naturally react and are asked to make sense of it for ourselves. Can we admit to not-knowing so we can be open to learning? Can we respect that a process is developing without our understanding? Are we willing to play our meaningful part no matter how we think it appears? Can we remember that what we choose to think, feel and do is our responsibility?
