Shifting With Changes

They looked back on the life they used to lead and couldn't align it with who they are today. They had been filled with determination, trying to prove things to people who weren't listening and trying to survive by any means possible. They were young, learning and misguided in their reality. Illness had been the center of their life, even though they tried never to draw attention to it. Today, they had nothing to prove and were more experienced to accept their life. When they thought about facing people who knew them, they felt fake. They were ashamed to admit that they weren't living as who they are because they were caught up in surviving their illness.
Wait a minute! Of course, I feel fake when I think of who I was back then. It’s because being who I was would be fake today. I've changed since then. That's why it doesn’t feel right! But why would I have reason to be ashamed of how I was back then? That was who I had to be in the circumstances back then. I'm uncomfortable today because I'm not meant to repeat my past. Time has changed and so have I.
They paused to reflect on their past experience so they could understand it and move on without shameful regrets. It was time to start anew without illness being the center of their life.
In Life, we tend to go through changes without realizing the change. We get confused with the changes because our mind hasn't caught up with the shift and we have no reason to judge ourselves for not-knowing amidst the transformation. When we are ready to let go of what was, we will shift with our changes in body, mind and spirit, and realize that we must stay in the present to understand our reality. What we had to be in another time was necessary and a part of our journey.
