I Wouldn’t Be Myself Without You

I do not recognize you,
Yet, you are always watching what I'm doing.
I've been told that you will never be accepted,
But you persist in being you.
Why can't I get you to understand?
Why do you not believe in what I've been told?
I've often tried to come away from you,
But you insist on loving me.
Could it be that we are just meant to be?
Is it possible that I wouldn't be myself without you?
In the struggle to accept who I am, different issues arise that separate me from my core self. Playing a role for the world, I lose sight of how I nurture myself amidst the conflict. I don't admit the conversations I have with myself and I lose sight of how it grounds me. No matter what I am learning on my outer journey, I always come back to who I am. I have no reason to believe that I am not worthy and what I hear will only affect me if I allow it to.
