Choosing Acceptance

When circumstances were beyond my control,

Choosing acceptance helped me to flow.

It became an acknowledgement of my role to contribute,

I surrendered to the process to let it naturally distribute.

I knew it was okay to admit that I didn’t know,

To stay open and listen to what life was trying to show.

I kept changing with the situations that arise,

And didn't let fear distract me from what was in the surprise.

I welcomed the guidance that felt utterly abstract,

Kept mindful of how I would choose to react.

When circumstances were beyond my control,

Choosing acceptance helped me to flow.

I chose to enjoy the process that was teaching something mysterious;

I chose to wander in wonder, be curious!

Choosing acceptance helped me to flow,

I was grateful as I got to continue to grow!

Looking back on my experience with a neurological disease, I dealt with a lot of circumstances that were beyond my control and choosing to accept the situations helped to flow with it. I acknowledged it as my way to work with what is and surrendered to it so it would run its course. I learned that it's okay to honestly admit to not-knowing so I would be open to listening for what life is communicating. I had to change with every situation and I didn't let fear distract me from finding the unexpected treasures. My life taught me to accept and learn from abstract situations. I had to discipline myself to choose my reactions wisely. I know to always assess what is in my control and to choose acceptance to better flow with what is. With much practice, choosing to enjoy the process and learn from it is how I react to mysterious situations. I let myself be curious to wander in wonder. Choosing to accept and appreciate what happens, I am forever grateful that I'm alive and continuously growing.
