A Brand-New Day

The sun rose in the sky, it was a brand-new day. Another day to care for what needed tending, exploring the Earth’s terrain and climbing to new heights on friendly trees that hovered nearby. The squirrel had yet another day to forage for food.
The squirrel peeked out from their shelter, feeling the cool air beckon them from the Earth’s warm blanket. It was a bright day to soar to new heights and make a promise to every new day to come with the necessities they’d find. Though danger lurked at every corner, they trusted in their ability to survive and were thrilled to explore the land. Who knew what they’d come to meet on this brand-new day? Despite not knowing and keeping aware of what could befall them, they set out to live their day. Their mind was set on doing what they must, not because they had to but because they wanted to. It was bound to be a beautiful day!

Author’s Note: I wrote this piece thinking about having to face daily tasks for survival. Though some tasks can be tedious but necessary, I thought about how animals go about doing their duties while appearing in full enjoyment. My imagination brought out the discoveries in nature. If we could perceive our duties as small adventures, I’d imagine excitement for every new day.
