Progression

It crawls the earth one step at a time. Every small movement brings new discovery and nourishment for what it will become. While crawling and feeding on what it meets on its path, the caterpillar keeps going with faith that it’s becoming. Not knowing yet what will be, it listens to its intuition and trusts the process. After it knows it has had its fill, it goes within to enter the next stage.

In the pupal stage,  it sits in darkness within the chrysalis getting to know itself while patiently letting the process take its course. It dreams in faithful silence without expectation while ready to face its next adventure.

As it starts to feel its form, the chrysalis opens and it can test its legs and antennas. Merging from its shelter, it senses that it’s not ready and basks in the new light to gather its strength. When the damp comfort dissipates, it stretches its wings and will fly away in search of nectar to fill its hunger. This caterpillar will rejoin the world as the butterfly.

Reflective Qs:

  • What do you think of the process to become a butterfly?

  • Do you find that you need patience to become what you want?

  • When you meet your goals, do you feel a sense of freedom and flight?

Author’s Note: As I thought about progression and the patience it requires, I became curious about the butterfly. Studying its life cycle, I started imagining its journey and relating to it.
