A Blessing in Disguise

Waking to light,

Shaking off yesterday’s hurts,

And ready to meet another day.

Everything danced in front of me, 

And yet it is a blessing in disguise.

Tempted to curse my bruised noggin, 

Wanted all lights and noises to disappear,

And yet it is a blessing in disguise.

Companions surrounded me,

Inspiration sparked at every corner.

The hall walking sang a concentrated rhythm to me,

Every new destination is a new beginning,

And the possibilities felt endless.

The images blurred and the sounds could send me to the ground,

And yet it is a blessing in disguise.

With every down an up is found,

With every pain there is a gain,

Blessings in disguise that I choose to recognize.

Today carries yesterday,

As tomorrow will grow on today.

A small tribute to my experience during my high school years when I met each day with injuries, double-vision due to medication and a constant alertness for a seizure. Despite how hard it was, it was my life’s greatest training and I’m forever grateful for it. A constant reminder in my life that up is found after downs and that choosing to meet pains offers different gains. My past carries on into my present and it gives me confidence to trust that tomorrow will grow from the choices I make today. Even if I react negatively to a situation, I will remember to uncover the blessing in disguise and expand my experience.
