We Work Together

You talk in facts, while I speak about feelings,

We don’t always agree, yet we get along.

You focus on a career, while I focus on the home,

We work together to support the whole.

We work together to support the whole,

We contribute what we must to do our best.

We don’t always agree, yet we get along,

We don’t know everything; we remain open to constantly learn.

We don’t know everything; we remain open to constantly learn,

You share your knowledge to correct my mistakes.

We contribute what we must to do our best,

I ask you questions to collaborate with you.

I ask you questions to collaborate with you,

We don’t always agree, yet we get along.

You share your knowledge to correct my mistakes,

We work together to support the whole.

My relationship with my husband is like a collection of intersecting roads. We each have our way, meet and depart. He tends to talk about the facts, while I go on about feelings. We have our moments of listening and not agreeing, yet we get along with each other anyway. There are times when he must focus on his career while I do my best to care for our home, we are working separately to support our life together. Neither of us knows everything and it’s our openness to constantly learn that keeps us together. The knowledge he shares end up correcting my mistakes and we both contribute what we must to be our best. Asking him questions aloud helps me to collaborate with him, gain more understanding for what I don’t experience. We may not immediately agree with each other but we will eventually understand. What we each bring to our union helps us to work together and support each other as we continuously meet and depart on our paths, and merge into one shared life.
