An Ascension to the Next Level: Spoken Word

I stare up the staircase,

Knowing that I want to ascend to the next level.

I must believe that all will be well,

Even though the fall I had on it feels fresh in my mind,

I look away and see the hole I left in the wall.

Looking back up, I wonder, “How could I possibly want to climb?”

My body always becomes tense on the second last step.

I could remain scared and miserable where I stand,

Or I could choose to face fears and conquer the climb.

Reaching a new level would open possibilities for me.

One breath in and a resolve to meet my fullest potential,

My hand holds the rail and I start my ascension.

One step at a time helps me to rise to my desired level.

On the second last step, I remind myself that I’ve done this before,

“You are well and will succeed! What used to be is no longer!”

I reach the peak and step toward where I want to be,

The flight I climbed is in the corner of my eye, I continue on and leave it behind.

The memories don’t cease to haunt me

But they encourage me to meet who I am to keep going.

Everything is possible as long as I stay present and accept who I am.
