They sighed with resignation. They wanted their batch of cookies to match the perfection they met when their friend had first made this recipe. They did what they could to match all the ingredients, but they were feeling uncertain of their ability to match the talent their friend possessed. They sighed again.
Wait a minute, how could my batch be exactly like theirs? They work differently than I do, our supplies came from different stores, and we baked at completely different times. Of course it’s not the same! It’s meant to be different! When have any of my batches ever turned out the same? I did my best and that’s all that matters. I can now enjoy my hard work.
In Life, we tend to hand out judgments and create competition without realizing it. By comparing to what we think is better, we subconsciously lower our worth before we begin while raising our expectations. Even if we admire another person in memory, it’s important to remember that there’s no such thing as a perfection to replicate. Every action happens at different times with different circumstances. What matters most is the care we place into what we do. Every batch from the same recipe is different and special. Appreciate it for what it is and treasure the experience for what it is.
